Sports Wagering Approved Events

The Sports Wagering Act permits wagering on professional sports or athletic events, collegiate sports or athletic events, motor race events, or any other event or competition of relative skill authorized by the Illinois Gaming Board. Pursuant to Rule 1140, the IGB Administrator may grant requests by master sports wagering licensees to offer wagers on events or competitions that are not professional sports, collegiate sports, or motor race events. Such events or competitions that require Administrator approval include non-professional and non-collegiate athletic events, non-athletic events or competitions, or events incidental to the conduct of athletic events (such as professional league drafts or individual awards). Once a request is granted, any master sports wagering licensee may offer wagering on the event or competition in question.

A master sports wagering licensee or a management services provider on behalf of a master sports wagering licensee may submit a request under Rule 1140 to the Illinois Gaming Board legal department at IGB.Legal@illinois.gov.

Unless otherwise stated, wagering is permitted on all events organized or sanctioned by any league, association, or other governing body that appears on the list below. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Any award granted or recognized by the league or governing body, regardless of means of determination (e.g., player of the year, coach of the year, most valuable player, etc.)
• Any occurrence related to the conduct of a sports event (e.g., coin flip to start a competition, length of a half-time show, etc.)
• Conduct or outcome of professional league drafts (e.g., which team will receive the first overall pick in a draft, which player will a team draft, etc.)
• Individual or team performances in ancillary events (e.g., individual performances at a league combine, individual performances at skills competitions, or other special events)
